In describing prudence Ralf Waldo Emers...Prudence

In describing prudence Ralf Waldo Emerson presents many examples that focus primarily on the senses, nature and courage.
Emerson proves his point to be negative with avoiding means and methods, androit steering, gentle repairing, making money or spending it, indecency, and people without perception. We as humans in society today want and want more we want qualities we don’t have and can’t have, so since we can’t have them we want them for our children. We want our children to be successful and with success comes different and unique qualities.
The definition of prudence is the virtue by which the practical reason distinguishes the things useful for salvation, or practical discretion. Prudence is the virtue of senses and science of appearance, outmost action of inward life, god thinking about oxen, moves matter after the laws of matter. When he said the outmost action of inward life he meant express yourself, express your emotions to the world. When he said god thinking about oxen he meant god thinking about nothing or wasting his time. You need to take care of your body by dealing with your physical surroundings meaning adjust to your surroundings and yo9ur mind will do the same, it will adjust to and learn what it needs to. Prudence by its self is a lie; it is true when it is the natural history of the true feelings when it unfolds the beauty of laws within the narrow scope of the senses.
In Emerson’s views on prudence he talks about the three levels of experience; one, live to the utility of the symbol, they have common sense, wealth and health are important; two, live above the first mark to beauty of the symbol, taste, they are more artistic; three, live above beauty of a symbol to the beauty of the thing signified, wise men with spiritual perception. Only once in a life time does a man go through all of these steps.
The world plays it safe. People don’t realize how important the inside is, their emotions and true self, we need to move beyond our outside senses. People who are truly prudent never subscribe, give, and seldom lend, and ask one question of anything “will it bake bread” meaning you can feel, smell, and taste bread, but you don’t move past your outside senses, it’s a disease. Culture today says that outside senses are most important, degrading everything else. Cultivated men speak what they feel and every once in a while they achieve something that’s important to society. When someone makes their outside senses their final say they are cowards, trash, and a joke. We need to consider what our insides are telling us and we need to show that to the rest of the world when someone is truly prudent they don’t let the outside senses overshadow the knowledge of the internal and real world, they let their true self shine through in their emotions and actions. Once you recognize the outside world you can make things important in their right degree and there is a reward for such courage, the courage to be your self and not care if people disagree with you because you believe it is right.
Nature coincides with prudence because if nature disagreed with what society is doing today we wouldn’t be doing it in society we wouldn’t even have the option. Nature keeps mans laws because she thinks that we create the laws we have for a reason and if she takes them away from us our world would collapse she agrees with our laws, if this didn’t happen it would lead to stubborn matter and conformity. Conformity means conforming to authority or to an accepted or implied standard or compliance, likeness in form shape or matter. So when you conform you are agreeing to someone else’s idea, you are being put into a mold so the world will be the same. And you will waste your time wanting these things. Hardship makes you wiser and more able. Nature provides for us when we need it to, it doesn’t just abandon us. Too mush materialism creates greed, simple pleasures bring contentment, and you can find contentment where you are. So when you want material possessions and you get them you just keep wanting more and more and you turn into the green monster, but if you search for simple things to bring you happiness they will and you will be content there are always simple pleasures within your reach you might just need to lean. Quality verses quantity brings satisfaction so if you keep wanting more and more you won’t get what you want but if you find what you want don’t be greedy with is be content, not wasteful. You have to expect what is reasonable and natural not what is necessarily what you want, but you can get what you want with good timing and without greed. You need to have balance in your life and firmly believe in what you say; you have to show what you believe in every day life you have to have actions to go with your emotions. The world today holds values such as health, beauty, and genius, when we don’t know what the laws of nature are, we need to know what is really important in life not what someone else tells us is important, there are more important things than what the world thinks. Real value is more than beauty and success in nature’s eyes.
When you indulge you become selfish and want more you are never satisfied. We allow our carnal nature to over come our whole world and it brings disaster, we need to learn to control our self, our actions as well as emotions. We need to have self control; if we stay the course we will receive the reward of our labors, what he sews he reaps. So if you want something you cant just sit around and expect someone else to do it for you or to get it for you, you need to do things for your self and you will be rewarded. Be patient and persistent and you will get what you want.
Heroism and holiness should coincide. The Good man will be the Wiseman and the single hearted the politician, you chose. Honesty is valued, when you trust men they will be true to you and trust you back, treat them greatly and they will show themselves great, so when you treat others correctly they will be themselves and not conform. Have high expectations and people will rise to meet the occasion. It takes courage to do what you believe is right especially when everyone else is against you, stand up for your inside emotions don’t let their outward thinking get to you. There should be a difference between being fearful and taking risks. Compromise is important. It will unite all men because all me are of one heart and mind, work towards getting along until it comes easy. If we live a virtuous life if will unite us. We were all created to live virtuous lives, so we were created to be united.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
